Expanding Housing Access: New Programs for Women & the Trans Community

Community Forward, in partnership with the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), has proudly launched two new housing subsidy programs aimed at supporting trans individuals, gender-nonconforming people, and women.

These initiatives will provide stable housing for up to 150 people annually, offering a critical lifeline to those most in need.

"At a time when the rights of women and transgender individuals are under attack, expanding housing options for these communities is more critical than ever," says Sammie Rayner, Co-CEO of Community Forward. "Seeing this program come to life after years of advocacy reminds us that real change is possible when we stand together and work with City leaders to create solutions that protect and uplift our most vulnerable neighbors."

The Ending Trans Homelessness Subsidy Program has already connected 40 individuals with housing subsidies, with 17 successfully securing permanent housing. Meanwhile, the Women’s Subsidy Program has provided subsidies to 18 women, helping 6 transition into stable homes.

Through these programs, Community Forward has built a strong team and forged key partnerships with landlords across the city to expand access to safe, stable housing.

With these efforts already making an impact, Community Forward remains committed to turning the tide on homelessness—one home at a time.
